Set Up Under Supreme Court Orders
22 April 2025
On 22 April 2025, in W.P.(C) No. 7 of 2024, the Supreme Court told every Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in India to use one digital process for deposit and payout. This portal is the Chhattisgarh roll-out. The High Court of Chhattisgarh at Bilaspur runs it across every Tribunal in the State.
25 September 2025
On 25 September 2025, the Chief Justice of India told High Courts and District Courts to roll out the portal with public-sector banks, insurance companies and tribunal registries. No award should sit unpaid. No claimant should wait beyond the time fixed.
The portal covers every claim under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. It holds one shared record for the Applicant, the Insurance Company, the Reader and the Presiding Officer.
Four Roles. Four Duties. One Record.
The claimant, or the legal heir of the deceased, in whose favour the award has been passed. The Applicant can see the deposit, the payout schedule, bank credit and any Fixed Deposit maturity from home.
The insurer of the vehicle. The Insurance Company pays the award through the linked bank rail, receives the UTR and keeps a clean case-wise deposit register.
The Tribunal officer who checks the deposit, checks the Applicant's bank papers, matches the award and prepares the disbursement note for the Presiding Officer.
The Tribunal Member who passes the disbursement order. The Presiding Officer fixes the payout mode and triggers bank credit or Fixed Deposit creation.
Award to Payout in 5 Steps
- 01
Award Passed
The Tribunal passes the award. The portal records the case number, the Applicant's details, the award amount and the interest rate.
- 02
Deposit Made
The Insurance Company or other Depositor pays the principal and interest into the Tribunal's account. The Depositor uploads the payment certificate for checking.
- 03
Reader Verifies
The Reader matches the deposit to the award. The Reader checks the Applicant's ID. The Reader sends the disbursement note to the Presiding Officer.
- 04
Disbursement Order
The Presiding Officer picks the payout mode (Bank Transaction, Fixed Deposit, or Fixed Deposit with Periodic Interest) and signs the order on the record.
- 05
Applicant Paid
The amount is paid to the Applicant in the ordered mode. The receipt and all supporting papers are saved in the case file.
Three Payout Modes
The Tribunal picks one of the 3 payout modes below. It looks at the Applicant's age, the award size, and whether any beneficiary is a minor or dependant. Once ordered, the mode is recorded on the portal. It can change only by a fresh Tribunal order.
Bank Transaction
The full amount, or part of it, is sent to the Applicant's bank account by direct credit. The transaction reference is saved on the case record.
Adult Applicants of sound capacity. Modest awards. Cases where the funds are needed at once for medical, education or basic expenses.
Fixed Deposit
The award goes into a Fixed Deposit at a public-sector bank for the term the Tribunal fixes. The Applicant gets principal plus interest on maturity.
Awards to minors, widows and dependants where the money must be locked in until a date the Tribunal fixes.
Fixed Deposit with Periodic Interest
The principal stays in the Fixed Deposit. The interest is paid to the Applicant every month, quarter, or other interval the Tribunal sets.
Applicants who need a steady monthly income. Includes elderly claimants, those needing regular medical care, and families that lost the main earner.
Open Record, Visible to Those Entitled
Every entry is time-stamped, tied to the person who made it, and cannot be edited later. The Applicant, the Tribunal and the Insurance Company each get a view fit for their role. They can follow the case without repeated phone calls or visits.
- 01Deposit status from payment to verification to release.
- 02Maturity dates for Fixed Deposits and interest credit dates.
- 03Payment receipts and certificates ready for download.
- 04Tribunal notices and the replies filed by the parties.
Four Rules We Follow
Accuracy
The award amount, interest rate, Applicant details and every transaction date are recorded exactly.
Transparency
Every entry made on the portal is visible to the parties entitled to see it. The Applicant does not have to chase the Tribunal for information.
Timeliness
The portal tracks the Supreme Court's time limits for deposit, verification and disbursement. Any delay is flagged to the Presiding Officer.
Dignity
The Applicant is often a widow, a minor or a dependant. The portal speaks to her with respect and in plain language.
Frequently Asked
Q01.Who can file a claim before the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal?
Anyone injured in a motor accident, the owner of property damaged, or the legal heirs of a person killed in such an accident. The claim is filed before the Tribunal with jurisdiction, under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Q02.By when must the Insurance Company deposit the award?
The Insurance Company must deposit the award plus interest (from the date of the claim petition) within 30 days of the award. The Tribunal can extend this in writing.
Q03.How is the payout mode decided?
The Presiding Officer looks at the Applicant's age, the award size, any minor or dependant beneficiary, and what the parties have said. The Presiding Officer then picks Bank Transaction, Fixed Deposit, or Fixed Deposit with Periodic Interest.
Q04.Does the Applicant have to visit the Tribunal to follow the case?
No. The Applicant can follow the deposit and payout on the portal. A visit is needed only when the Tribunal calls her in for verification, identification or receipt.
Q05.How are awards to a minor protected?
If the Applicant is a minor, the award is normally put in a Fixed Deposit until she turns 18. The Tribunal can allow earlier withdrawals for her education, medical care or maintenance, on a written application from the natural guardian.
Q06.What if the award is not paid on time?
If the award or any instalment is late, the Applicant can raise a grievance on the portal. The Reader must then put the case before the Presiding Officer for orders.
